He was sent to end the Seminole Indian conflict in Florida and to make sure it did not become a refuge for escaped slaves. WebbApparently fourteen men from near Nottingham had been involved in what was described as ‘the Pentridge Rising’ and had been tried and sentenced in 1817 to be transported to Australia. So it was out with the road atlas again and, lo and behold, over the border in Derbyshire, but not too far from Nottingham, was a place called Pentrich.
